Founding S2C2 @easst/4S

Scholars gathered at easst/4S Amsterdam to found a scholarly network under the working title of “Social Study of Chemicals and Chemistry in Transformation: S2C2

Nona Schulte-Römer (Berlin), Janine Hauer (Halle), Ruzana Liburkina (Hamburg), Patrick Bieler and Jörg Niewöhner (Munich) called upon STS scholars interested in chemicals and chemistry to gather and explore possibilities of collaboration, support, and shared empirical work and thinking at the easst/4S gathering in Amsterdam.

Almost 40 people from ten countries and three continents brought their expertise and enthusiasm to the session. Shared interests emerged both around matters of research – aligning empirical work, curating joint tracks at conferences, publishing together – and teaching: reflexivity to chemists and chemistry to social scientists.

We are in the process of getting to know each other, designing joint activities, and setting up infrastructures for shared work.

If you are as intrigued as we are where this might lead and would like to join us in exploring the molecular realm and its far-reaching implications, do drop us a line and come aboard: patrick.bieler@tum.de.
